When I moved back to the U.P. in 92 I started fishing the Tahquamenon for a fish called the Musky and Ill tell you what when I caught my first Musky I could not put down the rod. I would get on the river every chance I had to hook another one. I fished the upper part of the river around Newberry for about 4 years strait till I knew where every fish lived. They opened up the dam one year and drained the river down and people over fished the perch and took a toll on the Musky in a bad way. The size limit at that time was 30 or 32 and it seemed everyone was keeping any legal fish they caught. They finally raised the size limit to 42 and now a few years down the road the fish are getting bigger and heavier. I have not fished them for about 2 ½ years now and I think Im going to give it a try this year, along with some walleyes while Im on the river. Fishing from the mouth to the falls is hard, I fish this area for walleyes but have never seen a Musky in these parts but I know they are there and big.
