So I have been having a little fun lately...Ok, alot of fun. My job at the wier is going pretty good. The only problem is I can't tell you how many female salmon I have thrown away because of no oxygen in the water. It's really hard on me keeping up with friends, fishing, and other stuff that is going on in my life. Plus, where do I sleep?
The best thing that has happened so far is that we harvested the fish thursday and pulled out around 600 fish. 1/4 of the were cohos which will make up for a very interesting fall. I hope to land one of those this year. The other best thing is my closes friend, isaac, brought cari up to the wier and we had a great time. Cari asked if she could net a fish so I said sure not thinking she would catch one. Turned out a little king jumped into the net and when she went to put it back in the water the fish jumped on the concrete under the fence and started flopping around in the parking lot. She ran around trying to put it back and was really funny trying to get it back in the water.
So besides working the wier and spending almost every day in the outdoors, which has been great, I have spent sometime fishing. A few times before work I met up with my good friend, jake and fished a little. Not alot happened then.
Thursday I had the best class ever. We went fishing for a field trip to a small inland lake where my friend jim and I landed around 60 gills in a little over an hour. I learned so much...not really. Here is a pic of the lake we fish.

Last friday I went home to be with my mom on her birthday. I fished friday night with someone for sturgeon. We had one hit but I messed up. Unfor. that will probably be it for fishing with this guy.
Tueday I got out of work and went down to a little river with some skein. My first few cast I hooked a fish and put up a nice fight. Turned out to be a decent size hen!

I had a few other hook ups but they were mainly tail biters. I did hook one nice fish on skein but it got off at the dock.
Thursday mournin after work I went fishin for two hours but never took a fish. After that I went back to work for the fish harvest and got paid time in a half. It was fun but now I have sore all over my hands and I smelled pretty fishy afterwards.
After work today I went back to the small river I had been fishing. Flies were my weapon and I can't tell you how much fish I hooked. Right away I went two for two with these beatuties.

So I thought I was doing real good. I then hooked this one fish and had it all tired out but the kid that had been netting my fish took off so I had to do the rest. One error and that fish popped my hook. That was alright because several hours later the fish was hooked again and I got my flie back.
Then I started having problems. I kept hooking the same fish over and over again. I landed this fish 6 times in a ROW, 3 times he hit(down the throat) and the other 3 times he was fouled hooked. The 2nd and third time he had no fight but after the 3th time he actually started fighting.

Then we were having trouble landing fish. We were hooking them but they just wanted nothing to do with us. I finally said 15 minutes and hooked and landed this log. I say log because he came up head thrashing and came into the net. Some fun fish that was!

That's about all. The fishing is slow around here. The weather is too warm and I don't think were ever going to get a peak. I have to agree with our DNR biologist when he says the fish are just going to trickle in from here on out. Meaning I will have to work til november.
As soon as I get some stuff done I am headed to oscoda to wack some kings off the piers. It should be a blast!
