It's hard to believe that fall has come and is slowly going. For petes sakes it's snowing right now on Thanks Giving. Like I mentioned earliar that I was giving up internet posting for awhile because I had some problems earliar this season. It turned out not to be such a bad decision because I have been able to get things done and enjoy life a little more being out in the world then in front of the computer. However, I don't want to just leave you guys in the dust of what happened this fall so I will try and put out a short re-cap.

I gotta admit first of all I put only a 1/4 of what I did last year. At the beg. of summer I promised myself if I found a girl I liked I would fish less. I put way to much time into fishing and that's one reason I have never been able to go anywhere with a girl. The first day of school I met cari that I knew there would be a chance with. It turned out she liked to fish too. I also got along with a bunch of great people on my floor who have become family to me so I have spent a ton of time with them rather then in the woods. There was something special about this group because whenever I spoke about fishing I found someone who was interested in what I love.

My fall started off with a 10-day fishing trip before school started. I got to fish with several great guys that weekend who included brad and my friend Mike who had never fished salmon before but stuck out 5 all nighter out on the piers of oscoda. Although only one salmon was landed between the two of us, I had a great time. I also got to fish with Edb, and steve out of there boats on da west side. The winds did not cooperate with us but when we did get out we got into some nice fish. Thanks Ed and steve.
Mike biggest fish to date

My coho and King

I then myself back at school with salmon already waiting to be caught. I wasn't happy though and found myself back on the little M with a good buddy, chris(aka spoon3264 and steelnice). We didn't land any fish that day but oh did we have fun. Def. proves that fish are only a bonus when you have a good time with a friend.
Chris after he took a plunge into the river

Fishing didn't heat up for awhile and I found myself out on a buddies boat with a newbie, joe. Jim(owner of boat) and my goal was to get joe his first king. Within seconds of putting a rod in, it was set off and joe had his first king on board. I landed 2 bigger fish that day but joe was def. the man of the day.

Finally the fish started to come in and I started working. Fishing was limited between school and trying to keep a social life. One day I caught a huge number of salmon and was telling a friend about it. He has always been telling me how much he would like to catch a salmon so I dropped whatever I was doing(I think it was homework) and headed for the creek. Mike ended up getting his salmon which made my day. The monster smile on his face made my week and top all my salmon off including my biggest salmon ever. I wish I had a picture but it's still on my computer at school.

That weekend I had to head to the place that started this life long love, oscoda. I tried to get cari out there with me but unfor. she got shot down thanks to the four letter word, work. There I ran into my buddy Jon(hemish) and my good friend jon(ausable_steelhead). Although I knew I would have fun if cari joined me I still had fun. Ausable steelhead taught me a bunch of trick for the mighty king and we had a great time fishing from early in the AM straight through the day til the next mournin. I also got my first limit of salmon.

A few weeks later Caitlinn showed great enthusiasm for what I love. I had to get her out there so I did. Of coarse the fish gods did not work with me that day and I couldn't get a fair hooked fish that day. Luckily, a nice angler was near us and hooked a fish and handed it to caitlinn. It took her awhile to land the fish but once she did all I heard was how much fun it was and how sore her arms were, lol.

salmon season then started coming to an end and I was really bumming out because I didn't get cari out. My friend Adam then came back one day with a fishing pole saying he wanted to go. So we were off to the river. Adam and I found a spot where they were loaded and adam got his first fish and I got my goal for the year, 100 fish. Between adam and I we hooked about 40 fish in several hours. I was puting hot n tots in front of there faces and adam was drifting skein for them. That was a great night and I found a pretty cool friend.

One day I was talking to my friend jake about going out for some salmon one last time. Jake has become a great fishing buddy of mine and did pretty well on salmon for this being his second year. Cari overheard us talking and said she wanted to go. So we were off the meijers to pick her up a coldwater fishing license and then down to the river we met jake. I had a pretty interesting time watching cari cast into trees and snag wooden poles behind her. Jake and I hooked several fish but every time we were about the hand them off to her they would break off or throw the flie back. Finally, jake put the hook hard into a fishes mouth and cari was into a fight. It took her awhile to finally get the fish near the docks but I was ready to net that fish. Jake shined the light at the fish and I went in for the kill. I got half the fish in the net and it then got caught on something and started a death roll and then my heart shattered, the fish was off. I couldn't believe I messed up on the most inportant fish of the season. However, it didn't bother cari because she put down jakes pole and grabbed another one and was back casting. Time was running out and I was starting to get that nasty butterly feeling of I couldn't believe I messed up. I have netted hundreds of salmon and only have messed up once before and I messed up her fish. within minutes of us leaving cari yells that she think she has a snag. So I grab the rod and feel head shaking. So I give her it back and tell her she has a fish on. She fights the fish for a few minutes and this time jake took the net and netter cari's fish. However, there was something not right about this fish. Cari never hooked it. The fish earliar hit someones wiggle wart and broke off. Cari's leader got wrapped up in the treble hook. So we took took the wiggle wart out of the fishes mouth and she took it home for a souvenier or something. She said she would never forget that night.

Ok, you may think that made my season but it didn't. What made my season was in the middle of the season where my dad joined me. It was a nasty cold mournin and our bait of choice was skein. All my legal friends were down there fishing included chris and I was hoping for my dad to land a salmon. He hadn't landed one since 2001. After some patiants I had a slam and handed the rod off to my dad. After a few minutes my dad landed his salmon and was smile from ear to ear. I still couldn't believe he was out there with me in the freezing rain and snow. seconds later I took a salmon similar to his on skein under bobber. What a mournin that I will never forget.

That was about all the highlights for my salmon season. Fishing wouldn't have been this great without the people who joined me. I didn't land any steel or cohos again this year but that's alright. There is always next year.
So I want to Thank everyone who joined me this year in pursuit of salmon. I had a blast and hope it will continue into steelie season. Sorry for the very long post but I thought I better explained while posting didn't happen very much this fall :D
