So it's been a week since I have been fishing and I have been having some major with drawls since my last trip. the earliest I have gone to bed in the past week in a half has been 5:30 because of finals and projects and taking people to the hospital. The nastiest flue of them all have been going around and I have been to the hospital twice to take care of people. My roomie is there right now as we speak. Heck, I had plans to fish wednesday after I turned in my last final but when I went to do that, it was gone so I basically had to start over and get an extension. Anyways, today I decided I was going fishing no matter what.
After movie, eating, hospital visits and christmas shopping I found myself down near the river around 4:25. Current condtions, gusty winds with snow and sleet...perfect, lol
I first tried my favorite hole but winds shooting up the river made fishing miserable. I tried it with a Chtr spawn bag bouncing the bottom under a float. No hits, no errors!
So I moved to the next hole up which I thought would be a better choice hoping it would cut down on the wind. I made a few cast and it was still miserable. Keeping a bow out of the line was next to near impossible. After drifting a few times I had a bobber down but since I was ticking bottom I thought it was bottom. Then I saw a medish trout jump so I made a cast at it which ended up near where I had my first bobber down. It shot down again but this time I felt resistance and I set the hook and ran backwards and up came the head shaking fish. When I had him calmed down I went to beach him but I had one problem, I was 5 feet off the water with no net with a 3 lb leader. So I looked around and finally came up with a way to beach the fish but it required jumping down 5 feet which I did and landed my first fall steelhead of the year. She was about 20 inches and had her fin clipped. I was geeked!
I gave it a few more cast but the winds were so bad I decided I would try it again tomarrow. Hopefully, I will have this stupid paper done.
