I talked to my grandpa over the weekend. He was reading Michigan Out-of-Doors (not sure if that's the right one) and saw that spearing for perch opens in February (or some month) on Lake St. Clair.
Is this true? (I was guessing it was a typo) Anyone ever go??

I've heard about it before but never done it. The intent is to target those big 12" plus perch. I've heard that a lot of times on St Clair, big and small will come in but the small ones get to the bait first and the big ones look but shy away. Maybe somebody who fishes Lk St Clair can give a better account the my second hand one.

We have been doing it for a number of years. It only runs from January 1st till the end of February. Basically, if they wont bite, you force feed them!!!! We use decoys to lure them in, then either catch them with russian spoons or spear them. We had Jenny Olson out last year and she filmed a segment on spearing for Michigan Out of Doors.
