Tip-Up Town USA Ice Fishing Contest

In the winter time, Houghton Lake is the place to be for some great ice fishing. Currently the lake already boasts 4-7 of solid ice and Walleye and Pike catches are already being reported at the local bait stores. With over 22,000 acres of lake, there are many opportunities for some great catches, including Northern Pike, Walleye, Croppy, Perch, Bass and a variety of Panfish.

Getting a few perch

I've been getting a few nice perch but not any quantities ice fishing on the lake I live on. I usually get 3-5 keepers each time out but after a couple times on the ice I've got enough for a fish fry. They are decent sized up to 13 inches. I released a pike and saw a couple nice bass in the hole this morning and kept 4 perch. The kids enjoy touching dad's fish.

Its been a while since my last post I see. I have been out several times since, too. Last Wednesday I made my way back to Detroit where I would meet up with a bunch of people from another site for a Michigan-out-of-doors shoot . My friend Don(Northern_outdoorsman) asked if I wanted to go and I jumped on it. The drive home was nice with all the snow on the ground.

Fishing on the Saginaw Bay hasn't been to bad lately. With the deep snow has been easier to get around with a snowmobile but not that it is settled and packed a little Quads are doing pretty good. I only had one class wednesday and I was hoping to get into the perch good sometime this week so I could maybe take home dinner next week. After class, I asked probably 20-25 kids to go but everyone was either working or had class. My friend said I could use his ice fishing stuff anytime I wanted to I picked up and left.

After several attempts on trying to find that access, i finally did and found a parking lot with no body in it but 2 feet of snow. Switched my blazer into 4 week...

My buddy Jake and I fished a lake 1/2 hour from here from 11 til 3 with waxies and minnows. waxies were on tear drops and the larger perch were taken on minnows on sweedish pimples. They seemed to like both at different times and between the two of us, we caught about 2-3 dozen. Only about 7 of them were keepers and some of these were smaller then I usually like to keep but I figured I better start a perch dinner soon. Southwest MI ice finally safe

I fished a number of small ponds this weekend and found 3-4 inches of good clear ice and another inch of the white stuff. The bigger lakes have been slow to freeze, but as of Sunday the local bait store reported people fishing on all of the Sister Lakes in Southwest MI. I had great luck with gills, didnt have any problem catching my limit all weekend. Good luck fishing all.....

My neighbor called and seems his partner for the 2 man tourny canceled. He was left with no choice but to call me Anyway, it sounds like a neat tourney with the limits for 2 people being 10 blue gills, 10 crappie, 10 perch and 1 pike. The total number of inches is what you enter in the contest. I figure we should come close to 370 total inches, that is if the blue...

Hey folks, with the new upgrade we have a new private messaging feature. I have PMed a couple of folks here but have yet to get a responce. You may want to check your control center and see if you have any new messages. Also, while you are there, click on Inbox Preferences. I have set mine so I get an Email everytime someone sends me a private message. This way if I miss it here I will see it when I check my Emails.

The upgrade is complete. There are quite a few new features. Each member has a folder for keeping all their private messages in. It also lets you know when you get a private message. For those that have their Private messaging disabled you may want to get into your control center and get it turned on. There is no spams that can go in there. Sometimes Ezboard will Email and update but that's it. Anyway, check it out.

This mourning Northern_outdoorsman, his friend Jared and I headed to a little lake near by. Even though we put in alot of hours with little fish to show for, we still had a great time. Jared and I set up in 5 ft of water and only had a small perch to show for. Then we played cat and mouse with a little pike but he wasn't hungry. We then switched to 20 ft and had tons of perch under us but they had locked jawed. Jared got another one. Then Jared had other plans and took off so I was left to...

Fished Pentwater this morning form 7 till 11:30. There were about 30 people there at one time. About 14 or 16 fish were iced most of which were steelhead with a couple browns. Unfortunatly I didn't get any! Seems the action came in spurts and was done shortly after 10:00 am. When I left there were only 4 guys still set up.

I had the ice fishing forum before but deleted it out from lack of support. But with one of the coldest winters in a long time and good ice options in full swing, it seems to be needed. Post up your reports and lets get this forum off the ground. Fishing has been real good here in Branch county for the most part all season. Panfish being the biggest targeted fish with Walleye and Pike recieving good attention too.
