Perch Spearing???

I talked to my grandpa over the weekend. He was reading Michigan Out-of-Doors (not sure if that's the right one) and saw that spearing for perch opens in February (or some month) on Lake St. Clair.

Is this true? (I was guessing it was a typo)
Anyone ever go??

Yesterday all you could see is ice all the way to the horizon. Its started hope it holds now. Surely not think enough to venture out very far but its a start.

fished the river last week end . did ok. not many nets wavin around. ended up with 10 keepers. lots of 9 to 14 inch fish in the river. did get a 40 inch musky as a bonus.most of out fish came down stream of hooters.
any body else do any good ?? catch em up john

Handicap Fishing Derby-August 14th

Hi guys/gals, I just wanted to mention that August 14th is the 24th Annual Handicapped Kids Fishing Derby out of Island Harbor Marina, 24102 Jefferson, St. Clair Shores MI. I'm not sure how many more boats they need to take the kids fishing but if you have a seaworthy rig and would like to take a kid fishing, contact Kevin Salis at (586) 771-4840 or the MBPA office at (586) 393-8800. The fishing runs from 9 to 3. Anyway, it should be a good time and we really need to have a positive fishing...

Ok, I never fished when I lived in the "Land of the Troll" , I hear Saginaw bay is a out standing walleye fishery, any truth to this ??, when is a good time of you to fish it, and where would be the best place to put in at,,, Hope there might be a spot up around Oscoda ?? Aslo what type of fishing is it, Trolling, Jigging, Live bait ??

caught tons of perch this morning...by the looks of it, so did a lot of people. About 50 boats in a small area about 1-2 miles southwest of the firecracker. Also caught some rockbass and marked tons of schools of fish. Check out my post about the musky.

fished from 6-11 last night from the light up to gull island then back towards the selfridge launch. couldn't keep the perch, rock bass and silver bass off my line! perch would have been nice, but nothing over 7-8". didn't see anyone else having much luck either. by the looks of the launch, no one else did either--only one trailer left at 11.

LSC Walleye/Smallies

went out last night and only got one walleye. 2-3 pounder. fished near the St. Clair light. saw a lot of boats, but not much action. eveyone left by about 10. Fished 16 fow and drifted out to the channel just north of the light. Tried everything, no live bait though. Had several hits on a black spinnerbait with a small copper spinner. Added a trailer hook and the bite stopped. Beautiful night till about 11, then it cooled off real fast! Buddy was fishing for smallies, no luck.

Lake St. Clair and Saginaw Bay.
