What time frame in your opinions whould the late ruts take place for the late ruts for south west mich. And why did the move up the muxxel loading season for. I allways loved the break between firarm and muzzel. now opening day for muzzel is friday. instead of a bit of a week for the deer to calm down a bit and get into a rutine we are thrown back into the mix?

Late Firearm?

Has anyone else heard rumors that they are planning to add more counties to the late firearm season (Dec20-Jan2) due to the low kill rate this year? I was told by a state employee that it was true, but am unable to find any sort of confirmation on the DNR site or any news headlines.

I had plans to go out at 5AM in the mournin and sit all day. Ended up watching a movie with some friends and left in the middle around 3 because I wanted some sleep. After I got out of the shower I heard noises in the hallway and it ended up being adam and cari. They asked if I wanted to watch a movie so I said sure. It ended at 5 AM and there was no way I was going hunting. So I took a 7 hour nap, ate lunch and finally found myself sitting in the woods around 2:30.

BORING!!!!

I have never hunted so hard like I have in the past 3 years. Scouting when I can, looking for signs of every possible deer. I have been hunting since I was 12 and am now 19. I shot a deer when I was 15 that was only 75 lbs. I thought things would change after that since I was scouting and hunting very few days before that night I shot my deer. I saw 3 deer during bow season the year after that. I haven't seen a deer since then while in my stand and I have put 5 times...

Well for the gun deer hunters which is the biggest draw in Michigan hunting, tomorrow is a big day. Who is going and who is going to work??? A Monday opener might have a few having to wait to hunt till the following weekend. Any prospects on big bucks or just the luck of the draw.

QDM informational meeting in Ossineke

Saturday, Nov. 13th at 12 NOON, at the Sanborn Township Hall, in Ossineke (10 miles south of Alpena on US-23), we will have a QDM/QDMA informational meeting with guest speakers Bill Estlack (Sanborn Township Bigger and Better Bucks QDM Co-op Focal Point), and Tony Smith (Eaton County QDMA Branch President). Lots of great info will be available.

Immediately afterwards, and for those interested, we will try to organize a QDMA branch for Alpena and Alcona counties.

I've been hunting my 80 acres in Mecosta county almost every morning and evening since 20 October. I have not seen any bucks chasing does yet. Has anyone seen any chasing yet anywhere?
I've seen deer allmost every time out mostly small deer over bait. I did get a good look at a six point and also a 6" spike. I missed the 6 point and let the spike go.
Over the past 4-5 days I've starting seeing some scrapes and broken licking branches but haven't seen any chasing or breeding...

Fake scrape questions.

Do you guys use fake scrapes? If so, what has been the success rate? What are the best "lures" to use? How far apart do you put them? How long before season do you make them?

I started using them last season and saw more deer than ever. BUT . . . very few of them came anywhere near the fake scrapes and the ones that did walked right by. I used the "active scrape" dripper that is supposed to drip only during daytime hours and put some gland stuff (forgot the brand)...
